The pictures speak...

It was my first time to visit a gallery. Indeed I was pleased to have a look at Osage Gallery that co-organised the exhibition "It Takes Four Sorts". The showpieces of this project which displayed the cultures of China, Macau, Taiwan and Hong Kong were created by artists that different from their own region.

The exhibition "HONG KONG: Plan B" was my favourite because the Taiwanese artists certainly showcased the current situation in Hong Kong, for example, "Mr. De(mocracy) is absent" reflected that the democratic path is ruined under the invisible influence of the China and the involvement of pro-establishment camp. Like the manipulation of the result of the Chief Executive election, the oppression of the freedom of press, etc.

In those pictures, people wearing Zhongshan suit had a demonstration and shouted slogans at the old legislative council building. Of course the costumes, the slogans and Mr. De(mocracy), the theme had historical meanings. Many years ago, thousand of students from Peking University protested against a weak Chinese government, unable to safeguard China's rights. They called for two western concepts, Science and Democracy, personified as Mr. Science and Mr. Democracy. The march was restored again in the modern city.

The other photo was "Gift (i): Invincible sea view". The term "invincible" seems very deluxe and poor people can never enjoy it. The photo presented that an old couple had lunch in an old flat. However, there was a big sea view poster placing besides the table. What a sarcastic scene! A picture showed the underlying issues simply. The high property prices, the polarization between rich and poor, etc.

A picture speaks a thousand words. The photos mentioned above were meaningful and precise. And the artworks really arise the awareness about the problems in Hong Kong.
